Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You connect to a Microsoft SQL Azure instance in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio (SSMS 2008 R2).

  • You right-click a non-master database in Object Explorer, and then run a custom report.

  • The custom report does not include the USE command to switch context to the current database.

In this scenario, the custom report does not run. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

USE statement is not supported to switch between databases. Use a new connection to connect to a different Database.

Symptoms

This issue occurs because SSMS 2008 R2 uses the default database name (typically the master database) to run the custom report. However, SSMS 2008 R2 should use the database name that is used by the Object Explorer node to run the custom report.

Cause
