HOW TO: Insert Large Amounts of Text into a Page in FrontPage 2000

When you use the copy and paste technique to insert text, the process may be slow and cause FrontPage to stop responding (hang). Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. The copy and paste technique to insert large amounts of text into a document may not be the most efficient means of inserting information.

This process may take a lot of time, and may even cause FrontPage to stop responding (hang). FrontPage has a number of mechanisms to make inserting large amounts of text easier.

Method 1: Insert the Text As a Separate File

If you have the text as a file, you may use FrontPage's Include file.

1. On the page you want to insert the text, move your insertion point to the location you want to insert the text.
2. On the Insert menu, click File.
3. Select your file from your hard disk, and click OK.
   
   Note: If your file does not have an .htm or .html file extension, you may need to change the Files of Type box to the type of file you want to insert.

Method 2: Copy and Paste Smaller Selections of Text

If you notice slow performance when you use the copy and paste technique to insert large areas of text, you may want to try to use this technique to insert the text in sections.

This method will decrease the usage of your system resources and allow you to insert text more efficiently.
