FP2000: After You Install Personal Web Server 4.0, MDAC Is Overwritten to Earlier Version

SYMPTOMS

If you install the Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0 after you install FrontPage 2000 or Office 2000, the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.1 will be overwritten to the earlier version 1.5.

CAUSE

When you install the Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0, MDAC 1.5 is installed by default and overwrites the existing version of MDAC.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Run a Check and Fix

Use the FrontPage 2000 or Office 2000 Setup program to repair the FrontPage 2000 or Office 2000 installation. You may also initiate this action by clicking Detect and Repair on the Help menu of any Office 2000 program.

Method 2: Download and Install MDAC 2.1 or Later from the Internet

Download Microsoft Data Access Component(MDAC) version 2.1 or later from the following Microsoft World Wide Web site:

MORE INFORMATION

After you install the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions on Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0, MDAC version 1.5 should not limit or break any ASP pages that contain database regions.
