FIX: Multitouch devices become unresponsive when you use a .NET Framework 4.0-based WPF application that uses a Wacom driver

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0-based Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application that uses a Wacom driver on a multitouch device, the multitouch function does not work. Additionally, the application becomes unresponsive to any touch events.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Wacom driver does not support the device ID string descriptor. When the WPF control tries to send a device ID string descriptor, the driver returns a "Not Supported" message. When the WPF control receives the "Not Supported" message, the control stops responding to any request that contains a device ID string descriptor.

Note According to USB specifications, the device ID string descriptor is optional.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next that contains this hotfix.
