This article explains how to download and install the Network Installation Wizard (NIW) for Microsoft Office.

Note The current version of the Network Installation Wizard should work correctly with all Office 95 and Office 97 STF files.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

Running Setupniw.exe

When prompted, save the Setupniw.exe file to your hard disk. By doing so, you will not have to download the Setupniw.exe file again, in case you or anyone else needs to reinstall the NIW in the future.

After you have completely downloaded the Setupniw.exe file, install the NIW by double-clicking the Setupniw.exe file in Windows Explorer, and following the instructions on the screen.

To run the NIW, click Start, point to Programs, point to Network Installation Wizard, and click Network Installation Wizard.

Note Microsoft Office 2000 does not use the NIW; instead, Microsoft Office 2000 uses the Custom Installation Wizard, or CIW. You can download the CIW as part of the Office Resource Kit Tool Set from the following address:
