Sommario

Un utente è un valore principale di protezione di Active Directory di Windows 2000. Un utente può essere dotato di un indirizzo di posta elettronica di Exchange Server ma non di una cassetta postale di Exchange Server o di un indirizzo di posta elettronica di Exchange Server e di una cassetta postale di Exchange Server. Un utente a cui è attribuito un indirizzo di posta elettronica è definito abilitato alla posta, mentre un utente con una cassetta postale è detto abilitato alla cassetta postale. Affinché un oggetto sia abilitato alla cassetta postale, è necessario che sia abilitato alla posta.

Un contatto è la rappresentazione in Active Directory di Windows 2000 di un utente che non è un valore principale di protezione, ossia un utente a cui non è consentito l'accesso. Un contatto può disporre di un indirizzo di posta elettronica di destinazione e di uno o più indirizzi di posta elettronica di Exchange Server. Il concetto di contatto in Exchange 2000 Server ed Exchange Server 2003 ricalca quello di destinatario personalizzato in Exchange Server 5.5.

Osservando Active Directory è possibile comprendere meglio la differenza tra un utente e un contatto. Di seguito sono definiti gli attributi di utente e dei contatti per tutti i casi possibili:
Utente di Windows 2000 non abilitato alla posta o alla cassetta postale

Utente di Windows 2000 abilitato alla posta
Contatto di Windows 2000 senza indirizzo di posta elettronica
Contatto di Windows 2000 per cui è definito un indirizzo di posta elettronica di destinazione
L'aspetto più importante delle differenze tra utente e contatto è il fatto che l'utente dispone di vari attributi che gli consentono di eseguire l'accesso: SAMAccountName, objectSID, userAccountControl e userPrincipalName. Il contatto invece non dispone di tali attributi. Si noti inoltre la differenza negli attributi definiti per i due tipi di contatto:
