Underlines Disappear from Menu Items

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a program that uses underlines to denote hotkeys for menu items (for example, pressing ALT+F in Internet Explorer opens the File menu), you may notice that the underlines do not appear until you press the ALT key. This does not affect the hotkey functionality of the program in use.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have installed the TweakUI tool and the Menu Underlines option in the Effects section on the General tab in TweakUI is not enabled.

RESOLUTION

Click to select the Menu Underlines check box in the Effects section on the General tab in TweakUI.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have uninstalled TweakUI, you must reinstall it to make this change. Uninstalling TweakUI does not remove or revert the settings that you selected in TweakUI. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
