FIX: Expanding the Server Tree in Enterprise Manager is Slow When Server Has a Large Number of Windows NT Logins

SYMPTOMS

If there are a large number of Windows NT logins mapped to SQL Server and if the server is registered with a trusted connection in Enterprise Manager, connecting to the server may be slow.

WORKAROUND

Here are two workarounds for this problem:
  • Register the server using Standard Security. -or-

  • Reduce the number of Windows NT logins in the SQL Server by creating Windows NT groups. Map these groups in SQL Server instead of individual Windows NT logins.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
