Hide on Next Mouse Click happens on next animation not on next mouse click

When you have the Hide on Next Mouse Click animation effect set to two or more objects that are set to build automatically, the previous object is hidden as each object is built.

This is a change from PowerPoint 97, where the objects would remain visible until the viewer clicked the mouse button, causing the objects to vanish on command.

PowerPoint 2000 treats all animations as though they were activated by a mouse click. This allows the dim effects to function as expected, but it also causes the Hide on Next Mouse Click to hide the objects to which it has been assigned.

Use the Viewer to Show Presentation

The PowerPoint Viewer that comes with Office 2000 can show your presentation correctly with the Hide on Mouse Click effect animating as you would expect.

The viewer only implements PowerPoint 97 features, and does not have the same limitations that PowerPoint 2000 has with Hide on Mouse Click animations.

Group Objects Together

To work around this problem, group the objects that you want to remain visible, and set the grouped object to have the Hide on Next Mouse Click effect.

When you animate a grouped object, it appears that the individual objects are animating together at the same time. They would then remain on the screen until a mouse click, or an animation automatically began. This can be done to multiple groups, allowing for many separate hides and animations to occur.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in PowerPoint 2000. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3).
