SUMMARY

Outlook provides a unique view for displaying appointments, tasks, and other information in the form of a Web page. You can customize the Outlook Today page to display the information most relevant to your organization, or individuals, or groups within your organization.

IMPORTANT: Customizing the Outlook Today page typically requires knowledge of the C/C++ programming language. Customization of this page is usually done by solution providers or developers seeking to provide a corporate or enterprise-wide solution.

MORE INFORMATION

A white paper is available to guide you through the process of customizing Outlook Today. This document, included in the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit, describes Outlook Today features that are new to Outlook 2000, and helps you accomplish the following tasks:
  • Add custom content and functionality to the Outlook Today page, including text, links, graphics, styles, ActiveX controls, and scripting.
  • Choose a distribution method for your customized Outlook Today page. You can distribute Outlook Today as an .htm file or in a .dll file.
  • Avoid browser-related display errors.
  • Make the Outlook Today page unavailable in your organization.
Sample versions of the Outlook Today source files are also available. You can customize these files and use them in place of the default Outlook Today files stored on your hard disk drive.

The Office Resource Kit includes the Customizing Outlook Today white paper, sample Outlook.htm and Custom.htm source files, and an example of a customized page with .gif files. Download these files from the Office Resource Kit Toolbox available at the following Web address:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/Appndx/toolbox.htm (http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/Appndx/toolbox.htm)
Information about downloading the Microsoft Office Resource Kit or purchasing the print version is available on the Microsoft Web site at the following address:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/default.htm (http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/default.htm)
Outlook 2002 uses the same Outlook 2000 architecture for Outlook Today. However, information about customizing Outlook Today was not updated specifically for Outlook 2002 and therefore is not included in the Office XP Resource Kit.
