SYMPTOMS

After you download an item from the Internet, you may not hear a sound when the download is complete, or you may hear the sound that you selected for the Complete Navigation event.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the "Download complete" dialog box is associated with the Complete Navigation event in Internet Explorer 5, and the sound for this event is off by default.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue if you do not hear a sound:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Sounds.
  2. Click Complete Navigation in the Events box, click a .wav file in the Name box, and then click OK.
NOTE: When you select a sound for the Complete Navigation event, this sound may also be played each time Internet Explorer opens a new Web page.

MORE INFORMATION

The "Download complete" dialog box in Internet Explorer 4.x is associated with the Asterisk event.
