When you try to install Microsoft Office Communicator or you try to start Office Communicator, you experience the following symptoms:
- When you try to install Office Communicator, the installation is unsuccessful.
- After you successfully install Office Communicator, Office Communicator does not start.
- When you try to start Office Communicator, you receive the following error message:
Cannot open the program because Office Communicator is already running on your Windows user account
Communicator installation is unsuccessful, or the program does not start
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Uninstall all versions of Communicator. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then open Control Panel.
- Click Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs, click Communicator, and then click Uninstall.
- Close all Microsoft Office programs.
- Close all other instant messaging clients, such as MSN, YAHOO, or AIM.
- Reinstall Communicator from the Microsoft Online Customer Portal (MOCP).
Error: Cannot open the program because Office Communicator is already running on your Windows user account
To exit Office Communicator by using Task Manager, follow these steps:
- Right-click the Task Bar, and then click Start Task Manager.
- Click the Processes tab, and then click Show Processes from all users.
- Find Communicator.exe in the Processes list.
- Right-click communicator.exe, and then click End Task.
