Introduction

An update is available for Best Practices Analyzer for the Application Server role in Windows Server 2008 R2. This update adds six new rules to Best Practices Analyzer for the Application Server role.

Best Practices Analyzer for the Application Server role

Best Practices Analyzer can help you implement best practices in the configuration of your Application Server.

After you install Best Practices Analyzer for the Application Server role on an application server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server AppFabric, Best Practices Analyzer scans the application server role and reports best practice violations. You can filter or exclude unnecessary results from the reports by using Best Practices Analyzer. You can also perform Best Practices Analyzer tasks by using either the Server Manager graphical user interface (GUI) or Windows PowerShell cmdlets.

Rules that are changed in this update

This update adds the following rules in Best Practices Analyzer for the Application Server role.

Rule 1

AppFabric: Caching Service should be configured on a dedicated server.

For performance considerations, the AppFabric Caching Service should be configured on a dedicated server in a production environment.

Rule 2

AppFabric: SWIS behavior should not configured at the root level

Configuring the SWIS behavior at the server root will make all WF services that use the nameless behavior hosted in this computer durable.

Rule 3

AppFabric: Event Collection service should be started

AppFabric monitoring events cannot be stored in the monitoring database if the Event Collector service is not running.

Rule 4

AppFabric: Workflow Management service should be started

This server will not be able to resume persisted WF instances, and you will not be able to control your WF service instances if the Workflow Management service is not running.

Rule 5

AppFabric: Caching Service should be started

This server cannot be used by a cache cluster if the Caching Service is not running.

Rule 6

AppFabric: AppFabric requires Windows Server features

Windows Server AppFabric will not function correctly until the necessary Windows Server features are enabled.
