SBS Client Add Pack Conversion Utility

Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) uses Client Add Packs to increase the number of client licenses available in an SBS environment. The Client Add Packs are available on floppy disk. There are two versions of the Client Add Pack: SBS 4.0 Client Add Pack and SBS 4.5 Client Add Pack. The Client Add Packs are available in multiples of 5 licenses; to upgrade an SBS server that has 5 existing licenses to 25 licenses require 4 Client Add Pack floppy disks.

You can use the Client Add Pack conversion utility to convert SBS 4.0 Client Add Packs to version 4.5 Client Add Packs.

All SBS 4.0 Client Add Pack disks should be converted. The additional licenses can then be applied to an SBS 4.5 server, maintaining the proper number of licenses. If you apply SBS 4.0 Client Add Packs to an SBS 4.5 server, the number licenses added to the server may not be correct.

If you apply SBS 4.0 Client Add Packs to an SBS 4.5 server and the resulting number of licenses is incorrect, there are two ways to correct the number of licenses available on the server:

• Remove and reinstall the SBS server, convert the Client Add Packs to version 4.5, and then reapply the Client Add Packs to the new installation of SBS 4.5.
• Remove the SBS 4.5 installation, install SBS 4.0, apply the SBS 4.0 Client Add Packs, and then upgrade the server to version 4.5.

Converting the Client Add Packs to version 4.5 is a good idea because it make the Client Add Packs available to be used with future reinstallations of SBS 4.5 should it become necessary.
To install the conversion utility on the server:

1. Save the downloaded utility to a temporary folder (for example, C:\Convert).
2. Run the Con4045.exe file.
3. When you are prompted, either type the appropriate folder location or click Browse to specify the location in which conversion utility should be installed on the hard disk.

To convert a Client Add Pack:

1. Insert the Client Add Pack disk in drive A.
2. Run Convert.exe (do not run Setup.exe, this file will be copied to the Client Add Pack).
3. Click Go to start the conversion process.
4. When the conversion is completed successfully, you receive a "You have successfully updated your Client Add Pack to version 4.5" message. Click OK, and then click Close.
