VIZACT: Certain Components Missing or Corrupted Error When Starting Vizact

When you start Vizact 2000, you may receive the following error message: When you click OK, the program does not start.

This behavior can be caused by one of the following problems:

• Internet Explorer 5 is not installed on your computer.
  
  -or-
• Certain components of Vizact are missing or corrupted.
  
  -or-
• If Internet Explorer 5 is already installed, components of Internet Explorer 5 are corrupted.
  
  -or-
• The Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java is missing or corrupted.
  
  -or-
• Certain components of Windows 98 are missing or corrupted.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods, depending on your situation.

Method 1: Install Internet Explorer 5

To install Internet Explorer 5, visit the following Microsoft Web site and follow the instructions for installing Internet Explorer 5: IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 98 Second Edition, you may not be able to reinstall Internet Explorer because you may already be running the latest version. In this case, you must use the repair method (Method 3) or you must use the Windows 98 System File Checker to repair your system. For more information about doing this, see Method 5.

Method 2: Repair Microsoft Vizact

To repair Microsoft Vizact, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Vizact 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
4. In the Microsoft Vizact 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Vizact 2000.

If you are asked for the Vizact 2000 compact disc, insert it into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. When the repair process is complete, click OK.

Method 3: Repair Internet Explorer 5

To use the Internet Explorer Repair tool:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, and then click Add/Remove.
4. Click Repair the current installation of Internet Explorer, and then click OK.

If the Repair tool detects an error, it may generate the following error message or one similar to it: If you click Details, you may receive an explanation for the problem. For example, you may receive the following types of explanations:

• Internet Explorer 5 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:
  File file name is missing.
• Internet Explorer 5 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:
  Version 4.72.3110.0 of file file name exists but needs to be greater than 5.0.808.1000.
  In order to fix a problem of this nature, it is recommended that Internet Explorer 5 be re-installed.

If you receive any of these error messages and you are running Windows 98 Second Edition, you must use the Windows 98 System File Checker to repair your system. For more information about doing this, see Method 5.

Method 4: Reinstall the Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java

To reinstall the Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java, please visit the following Microsoft Web site and click the link to install the latest Microsoft Virtual Machine. Follow the directions to install the Microsoft Virtual Machine.

Method 5: Use System File Checker to Repair Components of Windows 98

To start System File Checker, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, click System Information, and then click System File Checker on the Tools menu.
2. Click Scan for Altered Files, and then click Start.

If System File Checker needs to replace any files, it prompts you to do so. If you receive this prompt, you may need to reinstall Vizact after the computer has restarted in order to complete the repair process.
