Not prompted for Product Key during install of Office 2008 for Mac

SYMPTOMS

Every time that you start a Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac setup, you are not prompted to enter your Product Key. The setup skips the windows where you can enter the product key.

You must quit all programs before you proceed. To close a program, select the program on the toolbar (top), and then select Quit . If you cannot quit a program or do not know how, hold down the Command and Option keys, and then press Esc on your keyboard. Select the program in the "Force Quit Application" window, and then select Force Quit . Click Force Quit to quit the program.

Note You cannot quit Finder.

When you are finished, click the red button in the upper-left corner.

Once you quit all applications, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Remove Product Key File

On the Go menu, click Applications.
Open Microsoft Office 2008, and then open Office.
Drag the officePID.plist file to the Trash.
Close the window.
On the Go menu, click Home.
Open Library.
Note The Library folder is hidden in Mac OS X Lion. To display this folder, hold down the OPTION key while you click the Go menu.
Open Preferences, and then open Microsoft.
Open Office 2008, and then drag Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist to the Trash.
Close the window.
On the Go menu, click Computer.
Double-click your hard disk icon. The default name will be Macintosh HD.
Open Library, and then open Receipts.
Drag all files that begin with "Office2008_en_" to the Trash.
On the Apple menu, click Restart.
Start the Office for Mac installation.
