When you try to open, send, or forward an email message, you receive the following error message:

There is a problem with the Office database. To use the database you must rebuild it using Database Utility.

The Outlook for Mac database has become corrupted.

To determine whether your database is corrupted, move the Microsoft User Data folder to the Desktop and then start and use Outlook. To do this:

  1. Exit all applications.
  2. On the Finder, click Go, click Documents.
  3. Click Microsoft User Data folder and drag it to your Desktop.
  4. Start Outlook.
Note: If you can start and use Outlook, the problem is with the Identity (database) and you will have to rebuild it.
