Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 on a computer.

  • You install a third-party file system mini-filter driver on the system drive. For example, you install Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 or Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010.

  • You create a database that contains a FILESTREAM filegroup on the system drive.

In this scenario, the computer stops responding intermittently.

Cause

The issue occurs because of a deadlock error.

SQL Server uses a mini-filter driver to interact with the registry keys. However, a deadlock error occurs if the interaction is intercepted by a third-party file system mini-filter driver.
