In Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 and earlier versions, you can prevent the sender's display name (also referred to as a "friendly" name) from being sent to the Internet. This behavior is designed to prevent a MAPI-submitted message from sending a display name when the message is outbound to the Internet. In Exchange Server 5.5, you can set the option to prevent a sender's display name from being propagated to the Internet on the Internet Mail Service Properties dialog box:
