SYMPTOMS

You apply the update that is described in Knowledge Base (KB) article 977343 or a later update on a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 server. In this situation, an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Monitoring server and an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Archiving server cannot be activated by using the LcsCmd.exe command-line tool. Additionally, you find the following error message in the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Deployment Log:

Failure

[0xC3EC784A] Failed to set database version.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of the changes that are made in the Dbsetup.wsf file and in the Dbcommon.sql file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup:
2404534 Description of the cumulative update package for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 database: November, 2010

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Installation wizard to activate the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Monitoring server and the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Archiving server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
