Incoming UDP requests from the host system may be dropped when you run Host Integration Server 2010

Symptoms

When you run Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010 on a computer, incoming User Datagram Protocol (UDP) requests from the host system may be dropped.

This problem occurs because the installation of Host Integration Server 2010 adds a firewall rule to the local server firewall. This added rule creates a nonexistent dependency on the IP data link connection (IPDLC) service. This nonexistent dependency may block incoming requests over UDP ports 12000 - 12004.

To view the details of the added rule, at a command prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter:

netsh advfirewall firewall show rule IPDLC verbose

The details of the added rule resemble the following:

More information

After the update is applied, follow these steps to remove the existing IPDLC firewall rule and to add the updated IPDLC firewall rule:

Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010, then click Configuration Tool.
Click Unconfigure Features.
Click Network Integration.
Click OK.

Note If Session Integrator is also configured, a dialog box is displayed that explains that the Session Integrator feature is also going to be unconfigured. Click Yes in this box to proceed.
Click Next, and then click Finish. The Network Integration feature is unconfigured at this point.
Click Network Integration, and then click Enable Network Integration.
Click the "..." button next to the Windows Service account, type the password for the HIS service account, and then click OK.
If the Session Integrator feature was unconfigured as described earlier, click Session Integrator, and then click Enable Session Integration Feature. Click the "..." button next to the Windows Service account, type the password for the HIS service account, and then click OK.
Click Apply Configuration.
Click Next to configure the features.
Click Finish.
Close the Configuration Tool.

Note These steps must be done even when you are applying a Host Integration Server 2010 Cumulative Update that includes this update. If the Host Integration Server 2010 server has the Network Integration feature configured, the only way to get the new IPDLC firewall rule is to unconfigure and configure the Network Integration feature.
