Office Communicator 2007 R2 is unresponsive after you wake up your computer from sleep by using Wake on LAN

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • Your computer is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) together with Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2.
  • You put the computer to sleep.
  • You wake up your computer from sleep by using Wake on LAN.
In this scenario, Office Communicator 2007 R2 is unresponsive. However, other applications work as normal.

Note If you end Office Communicator 2007 R2 by using Task Manager, and then start Office Communicator 2007 R2 again, it works as normal.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the PBT_APMRESUMESUSPEND event is not sent through Windows to Office Communicator 2007 when you use Wake on LAN on Windows Vista SP1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup:
2291453 Description of the cumulative update package for Communicator 2007 R2: November 2010

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
