Article ID: 245044 - Last Review: March 1, 2007 - Revision: 3.2 "Warning: The Restore Destination Device..." Error Message During RestoreThis article was previously published under Q245044 SYMPTOMS
When you are restoring a backup created with the Backup tool, you may receive the following error message:
Warning: The restore destination device does not support some file system features of the original device. Some data may not be restored as a result.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the files that you are attempting to restore have attributes that require the NTFS file system, but the drive to which you are restoring is not formatted as NTFS. This may also occur if files have reparse points ($Symbolic_link) associated with them, but the required filter driver is not started. Remote Storage and Remote Installation Server (RIS) SIS volumes use Reparse points on data files. If the backup contains these types of files, but the associated service is not currently running, you receive the warning message. RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, make sure that the device to which you are restoring uses NTFS.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
Some files, such as files that are encrypted with the Encrypting File System (EFS), can exist only on partitions that are formatted with the NTFS file system. If you attempt to restore encrypted files to a partition that does not use NTFS, you receive the error message.
