MOD2000: Offline Subscription Items Remain Even When You Remove and Re-create the Subscription

SYMPTOMS

When you re-create an offline subscription that you previously removed from an end-user computer, the "old" subscription items remain in the synchronization dialog box. During the creation of the new offline subscription, the Items to Synchronize dialog box appears to show the status of the subscription processing. On the Progress tab of the Items to Synchronize dialog box, you can see the objects from the previously removed subscription. If the new subscription is based on the same publication as the "old" subscription, it appears that there are duplicate items in the list.

CAUSE

When a new subscription is created and an "old" version of that same subscription previously existed on the same computer, the Items to Synchronize dialog box must be stopped and restarted to accurately reflect the current subscription items.

RESOLUTION

Stop and restart the Items to Synchronize program.

On computers running Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000:

In Task Manager, on the Processes tab, click Mobsync.exe.
Click End Process.

On computers running Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98:

In Task Manager, click Mobsync.exe.
Click End Task.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

Create a data access page that has a Workflow Toolbar Control on it, and then save the page in the server's Web folder for the current database.
On the end-user client computer, install Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE), and then apply Microsoft SQL Server SP1.
On the end-user client computer, install the client components from http://server name/modWeb/default.htm, where server name is the name of the Access Workflow Designer server computer.
On the end-user client computer, add the server as a trusted site.For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

On the end-user client computer, browse to the data access page that you created in Step 1.
Click the Offline button.
Click the Remove Offline Subscription button. When prompted if you want to remove the subscription, click Yes.
Immediately re-create the subscription. Click the Offline button. Select the Make Available Offline option, and then click the name of the subscription. Note that the Synchronizing dialog box appears and that the subscription items are duplicated. If you switch to the Task Manager, note that Mobsync.exe appears in the list.
