SUMMARY

Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) 2008 Update Rollup 5 is now available.

Windows SBS 2008 Update Rollup 5 will upgrade Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant to version 6.5. Additionally, this update rollup includes the following update:

Description of Windows Small Business Server 2008 Update Rollup 4

This update also addresses the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

Issue 1
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) log files grow quickly and consume a large amount of disk space.
Issue 2
You cannot correctly disable IP version 6 (IPv6) by clearing the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) checkbox in the network connection properties dialog box.
Issue 3
When you try to install Windows SBS 2008 Update Rollup 4 after you uninstall Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, the installation may fail.

Issue 4
When you try to edit the properties of a user account, you may receive the following error message:

Invalid E-mail alias
This e-mail alias already exists. Type a different e-mail alias.

Note: This issue occurs when the user account has the same SMTP mailbox name as a mail-enabled contact. For example, a user account has an email address of test@contoso.com, and a mail-enabled contact has an email address of test@adventureworks.com. In this example, you may receive the error message when you try to change the user account.

Issue 5
After you install an earlier update rollup for Windows SBS 2008, you may receive the following event in the application event log every 5 to 10 minutes:

Description:
The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.
Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search'

In this situation, new content is not added to the search index. Therefore, new content cannot be found when you perform a full-text search in the companyweb website.

Issue 6
You may experience compatibility issues with Windows Internet Explorer 9. For example, Internet Explorer 9 may not work correctly with the following websites:

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this update. To avoid restarting the computer, close all applications before you install this update. This includes the Windows Small Business Server Console.

Update replacement information

This update rollup replaces the update rollup that is described in KB979454.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Removal information

After you install this update, the authentication mode for the http://companyweb website is changed from NTLM authentication to Kerberos authentication. We highly recommend that you use Kerberos authentication instead of NTLM authentication.

After you install this update, you can remove it by using the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. However, the authentication mode of the http://companyweb website must be manually changed back after you remove this update. To revert to the earlier authentication mode for the http://companyweb website, follow these steps:

Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
On the Application Management tab, click Authentication providers.
In the Web Application list, select the web application that uses the http://companyweb website.
Click the Default zone.
On the Edit Authentication page, click NTLM for IIS Authentication Settings, and then click Save.
