Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install antivirus software on a Windows Media server that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003 R2.

  • You use Windows Media Format Software Development Kit (SDK) 11 to create an advanced system format (ASF) file on the server. The file contains pulse code modulation (PCM) audio streams.

  • A client tries to use a media player application to play the file or to stream the file from the server.

In this scenario, the media player crashes.
