The overlay image is distorted when DirectShow Video Renderer renders a media file on a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based device

Consider the following scenario:

• You use a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based device that has an alignment requirement for the surface pitch.
• The device uses DirectShow Video Renderer to render a media file.
• The image width of the media file is smaller than the surface pitch and is not aligned with the surface.

In this scenario, the overlay image is distorted.

This issue occurs because the video renderer does not use the correct mechanism for the video decoder. Therefore, the decoder uses the image width incorrectly.

Note If the video renderer requires a surface pitch that is larger than the default image width, the video renderer changes the proposed media type by setting the following values:

• Sets the biWidth member of the BITMAPINFOHEADER structure to the surface pitch in pixels.
• Sets the rcTarget member of the VIDEOINFOHEADER or VIDEOINFOHEADER2 structure to the image dimension in pixels.

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Platform Builder Monthly Update (November 2010). You can confirm this by scrolling to the "File information" section. The package file name contains the product version, date, Knowledge Base article number, and processor type. Prerequisites

This software update is supported only if all previously issued software updates for this product have also been applied.

Restart requirement

After you install this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

• On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
• On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
