This article describes the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010 issue that is fixed in the hotfix package that is dated December 14, 2010.

INTRODUCTION

Issue that this hotfix package fixes

  • When you print a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010 presentation by selecting Pure Black and White in the print settings, the printer prints a grayscale result.

    Note This issue does not occur in Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Here's an easy fix

To fix this problem automatically, click the Download button. In the File Download dialog box, click Run or Open, and then follow the steps in the easy fix wizard.

  • After you run this easy fix solution, you must restart PowerPoint 2010 for this solution to take effect.

  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

  • If you’re not on the computer that has the problem, save the easy fix solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

After you install the hotfix package, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:

Note You have to restart PowerPoint 2010 after you set the registry key.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\PowerPoint*To enable this fix for PowerPoint 2013, navigate to the following subkey

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\PowerPoint

    No hotfix is necessary to enable this fix for PowerPoint 2013.

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

  4. Type IgnoreDevModeColor, and then press ENTER.

  5. In the Details pane, right-click IgnoreDevModeColor, and then click Modify.

  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

  7. Exit Registry Editor.
