This issue can occur if the configuration for the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) was changed and does not match the settings that the Windows Small Business Server console expects. The Small Business Server console expects WSUS to be configured to use certain options.
To resolve this issue, run the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server Best Practice Analyzer (Windows SBS BPA). The Windows SBS BPA has an extensive set of rules that can help detect when WSUS is misconfigured. To obtain the SBS BPA, go to the Windows Small Business Server 2008 Best Practices Analyzer
webpage on the Microsoft Download Center website.
For information about the WSUS settings that are required by Small Business Server console, see the Update Services in SBS 2008 Update Services in SBS 2008
