Internet Explorer Desktop Icon Disappears When You Make Changes to Internet Properties

SYMPTOMS

When you make changes on the Advanced tab in Internet Explorer (on the Tools menu, click Internet Options), the Internet Explorer icon may no longer be displayed on the desktop.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you click to clear the Show Internet Explorer on the desktop check box when you are making changes on the Advanced tab.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click to select the Show Internet Explorer on the desktop check box, and then click OK.
