SYMPTOMS

If you export your presentation as an ActiveMovie Stream Format (.asf) file, the .asf movie does not contain any transition, animation, or build effects. Also, all your slide timings in your presentation are lost. All slides are time-spaced evenly.

In addition, the only audio the .asf movie contains is your recorded narration. Embedded sounds or movies and sounds which accompany transition and animation effects are not contained in the movie file.

CAUSE

ActiveMovie Stream Format movies are designed to play over low bandwidth connections. ASF movies created from PowerPoint slide shows contain only the most important elements of the slide show: the slide images and the narration.

MORE INFORMATION

To export your presentation as an .asf movie file, you must have the the Publish to ASF Add-in (Pptasf.ppa) installed. However, you cannot install this add-in from PowerPoint 2000; you can only install this add-in from PowerPoint 97. If you do install it with PowerPoint 97, it is available in PowerPoint 2000 when you upgrade.

NOTE: This add-in is part of the Windows Media Tools download from the Windows Media Download page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/ (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/)
After you download this file, when you run the installation program, it prompts you to either install the add-ins or to do a complete installation, which includes all the add-ins. After you install Windows Media Tools, you can export your presentation as an .asf movie by clicking Publish to ASF on the Tools menu.
