Midi Sounds Lock with ESS After Hibernation When Sound Volume Changed Via BIOS

SYMPTOMS

When you bring a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based portable computer with an ESS sound system back from hibernation, the ESS sound volume cannot be adjusted in either Mplayer2 or Mplay32 when you play a MIDI file or an RMI file. This occurs after you change the sound settings through the basic input/output system (BIOS).

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, stop and restart the Windows Media Player.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
