To run Outlook Express News on a Small Business Server-based computer with Microsoft Proxy 2.0 packet filtering enabled, you must define a packet filter for the NNTP protocol. The Proxy 2.0-based client, which is normally used to manage Winsock-based programs such as Outlook Express, should not be installed on the Small Business Server computer. A packet filter for NNTP permits Outlook Express to download from and connect to newsgroups when running on the Small Business Server-based computer. NOTE: Creating packet filters that open any inbound TCP ports can make your server more vulnerable on the Internet. The packet filter for NNTP will open all inbound ports between 1025 and 5000. To provide the best security, it is recommended that you use Outlook Express News from a client computer that is using the Proxy 2.0 client. MORE INFORMATION
