ACC2000: Erroneous Error Message When You Delete Data Access Page

When you try to delete a data access page that has one or more supporting files, such as an image file, you may receive the following error message: However, when you check in Windows Explorer, you see that the data access page file has been deleted.

This behavior can occur when all of the following conditions are true:

• You are using Access on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000.
• The data access page does not reside on a Web server.
• The data access page contains supporting files, such as an image or .ocx file.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Access 2000. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.

CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
2. Create a data access page in Design view. You do not have to bind it to any data.
3. On the Insert menu, click Picture.
4. Browse to any image file. There are bitmap files in the folder where you have Windows 2000 installed. Select an image file, and then click OK.
5. Save the page to any location on your hard disk. Make note of where you save it.
6. Close the page.
7. In the list of pages in the Database window, click the page that you just created.
8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
9. Click Yes in the first dialog box. When prompted with the second dialog box, also click Yes to delete both the page link and the page file.
   
   Note that you receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article. Click OK.
10. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the location of the page that you saved earlier. Note that the page has actually been deleted, contrary to the error message that you received in Access.
