A user is displayed as another user in Office Communicator 2007 R2

SYMPTOMS

You add a Microsoft Office Communicator user (user A) to your Office Communicator 2007 R2 contact list. You log off Office Communicator 2007 R2, and then you log back on to Office Communicator 2007 R2. However, Office Communicator 2007 R2 displays the name of user A as another Office Communicator user (user B). Additionally, the following issue occurs:
  • You cannot add user B if user A is in your Office Communicator 2007 R2 contact list.
  • User B’s name appears in the message window when you receive an instant message from user A in Office Communicator 2007 R2.
  • The contact card for user A displays the information of user B in Office Communicator 2007 R2.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Office Communicator 2007 R2 does not identify user A and user B correctly if the two users have the same hash-key of their Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) in the global address list (GAL).
