SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, and the presentation contains more than one design template (master), if you change one master, every slide in the presentation is changed, even the slides that did not use the master that you changed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because multiple master PowerPoint presentations can be created only with PowerPoint 2002 or greater. PowerPoint 2000 can open and read multiple master presentations, but if you attempt to change the master, the new master will be applied to all of the slides in the presentation. This behavior is by design of PowerPoint 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

You can change the slide layout, color scheme, and background, and apply the changes to only selected slides. Only by changing the design template do you affect all of the slides in a presentation.
