PUB2000 Error Message: Publisher Can't Check the Spelling in This Document

When you start Microsoft Publisher 2000, you may receive the following error message:

This behavior can occur if you are using Publisher 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer and you do not belong to a group that has Full Control permissions for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry key.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

Certain features in Publisher 2000 require that you have permissions to modify the registry the first time you use the feature. Features that require you to modify the registry include the proofing tools, publication wizards, and color schemes.
