MORE INFORMATION

If you need to enhance security on a computer that is running Office 2000, use the security templates of the Security Configuration Manager of Windows NT 4.0 or Group Policy of Windows 2000.

The Security Configuration Manager can be downloaded as part of the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0. For more information about known issues when locking down Office 2000, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Group Policy is included with Windows 2000. For more information about Group Policy in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, browse to the following Microsoft Web site:

NOTE: The security templates of the Security Configuration Manager and of Group Policy will always err to the side of security. This means that in some cases, Office 2000 programs may not function as you want without manually customizing the default template settings.
