Symptoms

In a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010 environment, you use Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Host Applications together with an application. If the application receives NULL characters (0x00) from the mainframe, you receive a BizTalk Server event error that has event ID 5754. The error resembles the following:

Description:

There was an error generating the XML document
Note The application will work as expected in a Host Integration Server 2006 or Host Integration Server 2009 environment.

Resolution

Notes
  • To resolve this issue if you have no cumulative updates for Host Intergration Server 2010 applied, apply this hotfix, and then modify the registry according to the instructions in the "Registry information" section.
  • To resolve this issue if you have Cumulative Update 1 (CU1) or a later cumulative update applied, you do not have to apply this hotfix. Go to the Registry information section, and then modify the registry according to the instructions there. 
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

    User Account Control permission
    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys:

    For 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cedar\Defaults

    Note For 64-bit editions of Windows, the following subkey must also be updated:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Cedar\Defaults
  3. On the Edit menu, click New, and then click Key.
  4. Type TrimTrailingNulls, and then press Enter.
  5. Right-click TrimTrailingNulls, click New, and then click String Value.
  6. Type Activate, and then press Enter.
  7. Right-click Activate, and then click Modify.
  8. Type Y, and then click OK.

    Note
    The value that is contained in the Activate registry value is not relevant.
  9. Exit Registry Editor.
