When you open an e-mail message that contains embedded Lotus Notes document links on a computer where the Lotus Notes client is not installed, the following error message appears:
An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program.
After you click OK, the e-mail message is not displayed.

When Outlook attempts to locate the OLE server for the embedded documents, the process is unsuccessful because the OLE server is not registered. Outlook then displays the error message. Following the error message Outlook fails to open the message.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
245025 How to obtain and install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a)

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.

With this fix, Outlook still reports the OLE error; however, it allows the message to open when you click OK to the error message.
