SYMPTOMS
A conversion utility that is included as part of the East Asian versions of the products listed above contains a potential security problem. The utility converts Microsoft Word 5.x documents into the newer file format. Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates this vulnerability. Word 2000 Patch: Malformed Conversion Data Vulnerability (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/WW5Pkg.aspx) East Asian Converter Patch (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms00-002.mspx) NOTE: When you install the patch on Word 2000, if the converter is not already installed, you may receive the following message:
The update completed with some errors. Please see the following log file: (C:\jpnwin\temp\ww5upd.log)
To temporarily work around this problem, install the Word 5.x converter before running the patch.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
