When you try to send an email, message, you receive the following error message in Entourage for Mac 2008 or in Entourage for Mac 2004:
An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.
This problem occurs because an incorrect port number is set for the outgoing connection.
To resolve this problem, follow these steps.
Step 1: Verify that you can connect to the InternetFirst, test to see you can sign in using the web based application. For example, if its a Gmail account, visit gmail.com and Sign in. If you were able to sign in then proceed to the next step. If you are not able to sign in, contact your email client to obtain correct user name and password.
Step 2: Change the SMTP port to 587
Step 3: Create a new user accountSometimes, specific user information is corrupted. This problem can prevent a program from installing, starting, or running correctly. To determine whether this is the case, you can log on as a new user or create a new user account, and then test the program.
