"Entourage cannot connect to the server" error message when you try to send email in Entourage 2008 for Mac

Step 1: Select override SMTP port 587 in the Advanced Sending options

1. Start Entourage.
2. Click Tools, and then click Accounts.
3. Double-click the account that you have set up in Entourage.
4. In the Sending mail area, click the Click here for advanced sending options link.
5.  Click to select the Override default SMTP port check box, and then enter a port value of 587.

6. Click the box in the upper-left corner to close the window.
7. Click OK to save the changes and to close the Accounts window.
8. Clear the Outbox, and then try to send a test email message. If the issue continues to occur, go to the next step.

Step 2: Enter password in SMTP authentication box

1. Start Entourage.
2. Click Tools, click Accounts.
3. Double-click the account that you have set up in Entourage.
4. In the Sending mail area, click the Click here for advanced sending options link.
5. Click to select the SMTP server requires authentication check box.
6. Click to select the Log on using check box, and then enter the appropriate Account ID and Password values for the outgoing SMTP server.

   7. Click the box in upper-left corner to close window.
   8. Click OK to save the changes and to close the Accounts window.
   9. Clear the Outbox, and then try to send a test email message.
