SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 or for Windows Server 2008 R2, you receive a "The following updates might need to be reinstalled" message. This issue occurs if you have one or more of the following hotfixes installed on the computer: 983534

Performance of the DNS Server service keeps decreasing under a heavy load situation in Windows Server 2008 R2 979350 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979350/ ) SharePoint Workspace 2010 or Groove 2007 clients who are provisioned to Groove Server Relay in Windows Server 2008 R2 may experience a synchronization failure 2406705 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2406705/ ) Some I/O requests to a storage device fail on a fault-tolerant system that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 when you perform a surprise removal of one path to the storage device CAUSEThe hotfixes that are listed in the "Symptoms" section are not included in SP1. Installing SP1 in addition to these hotfixes will overwrite the hotfix. To prevent this, the Service Pack installer detects whether these hotfixes are installed on the computer. If any of the hotfixes are installed, the Service Pack installer blocks the installation of SP1. RESOLUTIONIf you have hotfix 983534 installed, follow these steps:
