This article was previously published under Q250376 SYMPTOMS
When you try to open a web with FrontPage 2000, you are repeatedly prompted for a user name and password. You also may be prompted for a user name and password when you try to save a page that you are editing.
CAUSE
This problem results from the way that FrontPage 2000 communicates with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. FrontPage 2000 relies on the proxy settings that are configured in Internet Explorer 5.0. In some cases, the proxy settings are not being detected. RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, you must create a registry key to add the manual proxy configuration option to FrontPage 2000. To create the key, follow these steps:
In some cases in which Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 is installed, upgrading to Internet Explorer 5.0 fixes the problem. In other cases in which Internet Explorer 5.0 is installed, downgrading to Internet Explorer 4.0 fixes the problem.
