Cannot Access Novell UNC Share When You Run a Program as a Service

SYMPTOMS

A CreateFile function call may not succeed in a program that is configured to run as a service and is attempting to create a file on a Universal Naming Convention-specified Novell NetWare share after successful calls to LogonUser to impersonate a user.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Do not run the program as a service in Windows 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
