How to change the required runtime version of your application in a development environment

To change the version for your development environment, edit the ReferenceAssemblies registry key.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Registry Editor and locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v4.0\ReferenceAssemblies
  2. Edit SLRuntimeInstallVersion by changing its value to 4.0.60129.0.

How to change the required runtime version of individual applications that you have already compiled

To change the version for individual applications that you have already compiled, change the RuntimeVersion value in the AppManifest.xml file to 4.0.60129.0.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Append the .zip file name extension to your .xap files.
  2. Open the newly named .zip file, and then extract the AppManiest.xml file.

    Note Windows Explorer lets you perform drag-and-drop operations on files in and out of a .zip file.
  3. Open AppManifest.xml, and then change the value of the RuntimeVersion attribute to 4.0.60129.0.
  4. Add your newly edited AppManifest.xml file to the .zip file.
  5. Change the file name back to its original name by deleting the .xap file name extension.
  6. Run the application.
