Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You set the folder permissions of a default user by running the Set-MailboxFolderPermission command. The user tries to view the folder permissions in Microsoft Office Outlook. In this scenario, the folder permissions are not updated.

For example, you run the following command to set the Reviewer role for the default user in a calendar:

Set- MailboxFolderPermission -Identity <user@domain.local:>\Calendar -User Default -AccessRights reviewer

In this situation, the user cannot open the items in the calendar by using Outlook. Additionally, the user receives the following error message:

Cannot open the free/busy information. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your system administrator.

Notes

  • The user can open the items in the calendar by using Outlook Web App (OWA).

  • The user can also open the items if you set the folder permissions for the user by using Outlook.
