PROBLEM

Consider the following scenario. You install Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 for Office 365, and then you restart your computer. You're prompted to enter your user ID. However, when you enter your Office 365 credentials to verify your Office Professional Plus 2010 license, Office Professional Plus 2010 isn't verified. Instead, you receive an error message that resembles the following message:
The Microsoft Online Services Sign In Assistant has experienced an error. The error must be resolved before your subscription for this product can be verified.

To retry subscription verification, first resolve the error message 80048849 or try manually to install the Microsoft Online Services Sign In Assistant by visiting the Sign In Assistant help site and then click Retry.

Note When you click Retry, you're prompted to enter your user ID. When you click Cancel, you can use Office Professional Plus 2010 for a 30-day period. After 30 days, Office Professional Plus 2010 enters reduced functionality mode. To return it to full functionality, you must verify the license. 

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you entered incorrect user ID credentials (user name or password).

SOLUTION

  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
  • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Let me fix it myself

To reset the Office Professional Plus 2010 license information, run the following command from a command line: 


OSAUI.exe /F

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter:

    "C:\ Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE14\OSAUI.exe /F"
  3. Enter your user ID and password, and then activate Office 2010 Professional Plus 2010.
