“Live Meeting cannot connect to the meeting” error message when you try to create or try to join a Live Meeting conference by using Office Live Meeting 2007

SYMPTOMS

Assume that you use a Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 client in an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 environment. The connection test for the Live Meeting 2007 client succeeds. However, you cannot create a Live Meeting conference or join a Live Meeting conference by using the Live Meeting 2007 client. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Live Meeting cannot connect to the meeting. Wait a few moments, and then try to join the meeting again. If you still cannot connect, contact your administrator or technical support.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Web Conferencing Edge Service service is not listening on port 443.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
2501719 Description of the cumulative update for Office Communications Server 2007 R2: March, 2011

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
